Archipelago Footprints for Climate Justice

Jakarta, 24 August 2025 – Amid the escalating urgency of the global climate crisis, hundreds of children and young people from across Indonesia will gather at Jakarta’s Car Free Day area to hold the LCOY Indonesia 2025 Action titled “Archipelago Footprints for Climate Justice.” This action symbolizes the collective journey of young people toward a climate-just future, carrying a clear message: climate justice is a right for all, and young people are ready to lead the change.

“We are not here just to be heard. We are here to ensure that climate policies truly serve young people and leave no one behind. We also need the Indigenous Peoples Bill to be passed so that Indigenous lands are not disrupted by National Strategic Projects (PSN), because Papua is not empty land,” emphasized Mario, a child delegate.

The climate crisis is not only an environmental issue—it is a humanitarian crisis that affects human rights, social welfare, and economic stability. Farmers are losing their livelihoods due to extreme weather. Fishers are threatened by rising sea levels. Women, children, youth, and vulnerable groups bear the heaviest burden from disasters and energy injustice. By integrating GEDSI principles, this action underscores that the energy transition must be just and inclusive, supported by transparent climate financing that prioritizes affected communities.

The action will include a long march and a Archipelago Photo Ops. The long march will begin from Dukuh Atas to the Hotel Indonesia Roundabout, representing the united steps of youth from across the archipelago. Meanwhile, the Photo Ops at the HI Roundabout will feature participants holding posters of demands formulated in the National Children and Youth Statement.

“Every step we take is a symbol of hope. Every message we raise is the voice of millions of children and young people in Indonesia for intergenerational climate justice,” said Pinkan Astina from Climate Rangers Jakarta.
