Through the National Children and Youth Statement 2025, Indonesian children and young people bring a clear mandate for COP30 and national policy. They call for the ratification of the Climate Justice Bill and the Indigenous Peoples Bill, revisions to the Forestry Law and the Waste Management Law, as well as the acceleration of coal power plant retirement and a halt to new coal projects.
The government is also urged to end fossil fuel subsidies, redirect funds to renewable energy, and increase climate budget allocation for frontline communities. Furthermore, young people demand meaningful and institutionalized participation through a bottom-up approach from the village to the national level, and an end to land-grabbing practices in the name of energy transition projects.
Ultimately, this document affirms that Indonesian children and youth refuse to be mere recipients of the climate crisis — we are drivers of change.
With the principle of “Nothing about us, without us”, children and young people of Indonesia reject false solutions, demand a just energy transition, people-centered financing, and inclusive participation in climate policymaking. This mandate is a call to ensure a just, sovereign, and sustainable future for all generations.
